Kingfisher Activity Update
The resident kingfishers are currently in the early stages of the breeding season, which is a naturally quieter period for activity at the reflection pool. At this time of year, birds are focused on nesting and feeding away from smaller, open water sources, so visits can be less frequent and less predictable.
This is a normal seasonal pattern and part of the natural cycle. The pool itself remains well established, with fish present and the habitat continuing to develop, ready for increased activity as the season progresses.
As the breeding season advances and chicks begin to grow, demand for food increases significantly. This is when kingfishers start to explore and make use of reliable feeding areas more regularly. Later in the season, once juveniles begin to disperse, activity typically increases further, with more frequent visits, repeated use of perches, and consistent fishing behaviour.
The setup has already proven successful, with multiple birds previously using the pool for fishing and perching. As we move into late spring and early summer, the likelihood of regular and repeat visits increases, often leading to excellent viewing and photographic opportunities.
As always with wildlife, sightings cannot be guaranteed, but the site is well positioned for activity to build naturally over the coming weeks.
If a no show happens you can make one reschedule for free.
